It was written and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, and Pete Davidson.
In the film, a task force of cons known as the Suicide Squad are transferred to the islet nation of Corto Maltese to destroy substantiation of the giant alien starfish Starro the Conqueror.

Intelligence officer Amanda Waller assembles two Task Force X brigades — colloquially known as the Suicide Squad — conforming of Belle Reve penitentiary convicts who agree to carry out operations for Waller in exchange for lighter rulings. They're transferred to the South American islet nation of Corto Maltese after its government is overthrown by ananti-American governance, and are assigned with destroying the Nazi- period laboratory Jötunheim which holds a uncommunicative trial known as"Project Starfish".
One platoon is led by Waller's inferior Colonel Rick Flag and is nearly entirely wiped out by the Corto Maltese service upon wharf, leaving Flag and Harley Quinn as the sole survivors.
This distraction allows the other platoon to enter the country undetected. The alternate platoon is led by greedy Bloodsport, who accepted the charge in order to help his son from being confined at Belle Reve, and consists of Interceder, King Shark, Polka- Fleck Man, and Ratcatcher 2. They find Flag at a base camp for recusant dogfaces and move rebellion leader Sol Soria to help them.

Quinn is taken interned by the Corto Maltese government. She learns of the new governance's plans to use Project Starfish against other nations.
In the Corto Maltese capital, the alternate platoon captures the Thinker, the lead scientist in charge of Project Starfish. Harley escapes and joins the others, who use the Thinker to break into Jötunheim. Utmost of the Squad equipages the installation with snares as Flag and Ratcatcher 2 enter the underground laboratory with the Thinker. He reveals that Project Starfish is Starro the Conqueror, a giant alien starfish that creates lower performances of itself to kill people and take control of their bodies. Starro was brought to Earth by the U.S. government, who have been intimately funding trials on him in Corto Maltese for the once thirty times using thousands of the islet's citizens as test subjects.
An enraged Flag decides to blunder a hard drive containing substantiation of this disclosure but is killed by Peacemaker who's under secret orders from Waller to cover up the U.S.'s involvement in the trials. Meanwhile, a skirmish between the Squad and the Corto Maltese service leads to Polka- Fleck Man accidentally setting off the snares precociously.
As the installation falls piecemeal, Peacemaker attempts to execute Ratcatcher 2 for knowing the verity about Starro, but Bloodsport shoots him and takes the drive.
Starro escapes the destroyed laboratory, kills the Thinker and important of the service, and begins taking control of the islet's population. Waller tells the Squad that their charge is complete now that Jötunheim is destroyed, but Bloodsport chooses to ignore her and leads his teammates in battling Starro, while Waller is knocked out by her inferiors to help her from executing the team.
During the battle, Polka- Fleck Man is killed, Harley pierces a hole in Starro's eye, and Ratcatcher 2 process the megacity's rats to bite the alien to death from the inside. With the service diverted, Soria takes control of the government and pledges popular choices. Bloodsport forces Waller to release him and his surviving teammates from their imprisonment in exchange for keeping the contents of the drive nonpublic, and the Squad is airlifted out of Corto Maltese.
In apost-credits scene, Interceder is shown to be alive and under the supervision of Waller's inferiors.
